Things to do in Fakarava without scuba diving
Updated on
You can build a Fakarava stay around the lagoon and island life without scuba diving. If someone in your group dives, plan shared days too: an excursion, a visit to the village and a relaxed return to your bungalow.
Explore the lagoon with Rotoava Excursions
I can introduce you to Rotoava Excursions, our lagoon-trip partner. Its north tour features Teahatea’s green lagoon; its south tour includes pink sands, Tetamanu and Hirifa. Discuss your interests and the conditions with the operator before choosing.
“Blue lagoon” and “green lagoon” may appear in excursion descriptions. Ask which location your chosen trip visits rather than assuming a name always means the same route. Confirm the stops and boat journey when booking.
Choose a guided snorkelling outing
A mask and snorkel offer another way to discover the lagoon. Explain how confident you and any children are in the water, then ask about supervision and equipment.
A trip near a pass does not mean it is suitable for swimming alone. Ask the operator about appropriate locations and conditions on the day. The lodge is on the ocean side: its location should not be confused with a lagoon swimming beach.
Cycle around Rotoava and discover pearls
A day on land can combine Rotoava with learning about pearl farming. Tahiti Tourisme lists pearl-farm visits among the atoll’s activities; check visiting arrangements before setting off.
For bikes or other vehicles, check rental arrangements, equipment and your route’s distance. The lodge’s practical information lists Karuru Rental around 1 km away. Vehicle hire is not advertised as included in your stay.
Leave room for a slower day
Keep a morning for the village, take time for lunch and add an afternoon activity if you wish. Put a boat excursion on another day to avoid rushing between meeting points. This is a suggested plan, to adjust around confirmed arrangements.
Tell me which activities interest you in your stay request. I can direct you to our partners, and you can choose a bungalow with a private or shared kitchen.
